Barrel for BGS kit

Hey all, I was able to snag a G1 BGS kit a year or two ago when they were available, and am wanting to finish it up here soon. I bought some compliance parts a while ago, but just need to grab a barrel and receiver. I know this was discussed back in the day, but the search function wasn't helping me. What is the consensus for the best barrel to use to complete this rifle? Sarco has three different barrel types at the moment, which would be historically closest?

Also, iirc, I will need to get the barrel re-threaded to fit the BGS flashhider, correct? What type of threading does the FH use?

Looking at Coonan's webpage, they have a new product, "FAL Receiver Type G1". Is this the gold standard for a BGS build, or should I save the $100 and get a type 1C?

Stg barrel is pretty close. No one is adding the lugs though. I sent a stripped one with my f/h to L/FN on here, and he fixed it right up. If your numbers all match you can get the Coonan G1 with matching #. Will have markings similar to the original. I ordered mine in the white so I can get it with barrel hot blued to match the lower.

All,
Thanks for your replies. By StG barrel, is that the barrel listed right now at Sarco as "FAL Barrel - Closed ear, non bipod cut, non chrome, black finish", or is there a better source? I don't necessarily need a US barrel, but it could help with parts count-- one more original part for the gun.

As far as what I have, I believe it is a G1, BGS "A", as the serial # is four numbers, no letter prefix. Here's a quick photo of the lower and FH:

If you can help me ID things, that would be a big help. Yes, all my numbers match, so I think I got a pretty good kit. I'm not necessarily interested in 100% perfect historically correct rifle. I mostly just want to finish up this build with what is readily available today, but do it correctly as I can.

Beautiful kit. I would recommend picking up one of FNFAL guy's STG barrels from gunbroker. He always seems to have an excellent selection. That is where I got my like new STG barrel for my BGS kit (before, like an idiot, I sold it). Then move on to an nice LMT (DSA) or Coonan G1 receiver.

Nice type A. Good luck!!

Hello the camp! Unless need for lug is a deal killer, Brad -- http://www.gunthings.com/ -- has US-made barrels; look under "FAL Front End" for info. Good guy to deal with. hth mm

Ooooo! Type A stock. Worth a bundle. Don't mess with the stock! Leave as is. Do you have the open ear gas block that came with the kit? If so, juat get a stripped STG barrel. That is what Apex had with the bipod cut.

PM to you shackelford. Also when you get a chance, post up your serial number in the BGS numbers thread:

We're just keeping a running tally.

Thanks for all the comments y'all. What kind of threads does my flash hider have? If I get a StG barrel or a US barrel from gunthings, will I need to get it rethreaded?

Also, who makes the barrels from gunthings? Are they DSA? What kind of quality are they? From what I know, the StG barrels are pretty highly regarded.

If you have the long browning FH from the BGS kit, it has RH threads, the standard metric FAL barrel has LH threads....any of the smiths here will be able to help you with that.....

PS: Here is a nice link to existing BGS builds from the guys here:
