Gunbroker L1A1 as L2A1

Is this a Poyer? Why is the seller all mysterious on the importer?

Not a Poyer.. Eden imported some L1A1s and receivers and sold them as complete rifles as well as they took a bunch of kits and built them on the receivers as this one is. At the starting price of $2500 it is a good deal, I've seen them go as high as $4k. The kit looks pretty good but I believe that the rear sight should be a tangent sight and not a regular L1A1 sight.

So in escence, this rifle was not imported this way, it was a pristine L2A1 kit that was assembled in the US on an authentic Lithgow receiver.

No, there are some real L1A1s that come in through Canada illegally from time to time that have the SPF stamp on them, not L2A1s..

Thats a real Lithgow L1A1A semi receiver on a L2A1 kit.

I think thats the same one that was sold by Machine Gun Kelly's in Phx in about 2002.

Decent shape but it had mis matched parts. It was up for bid for the last several weeks and it had a bid of $5000 which met reserve.

Wonder why it did not sell

It looks like a very, very faint import stamp on the left side upper receiver lightning cut, right below the "L1.A1.A" markings.

Yes, that is the typical Eden import stamp.

L1A1 rear sight may be correct. That's what my gun's got and it also has the plunger brake, so I assume the standard rear sight was part of that contract.

I thought that the standard sight was sometimes put on the rifle in place of the tangent sight system by the individual shooters. I have had the rear sights/covers before and have ran into folks before that said the regular L1A1 sight was sometimes preferred by certain riflemen.

Mine was either Singapore or Malaysian contract,............can't remember now. I've seen pictures published with the standard rear sight. It's a dealer sample, so it hasn't been handled by too many individuals since import.

I know what you are saying about dealer samples, but they get cherry picked, too. For quite some time, I was eyeballing the "toilet plunger" on the dealer sample that came around at the Indy 1500 gunshow. I needed it for my L2, but the guy would not come off it. Finally, it came around again and the "toilet plunger" was missing and a nice reparked 5 slot was in it's place. It happens.

Interesting, all of the official pics I have seen as well as what I remember to have read would tell me that the regular sight was not how they were produced. I always assumed that the L2A1s you see here were put together with a bunch of random parts hence the rear sight issue.

Now that I read through the Skennerton book it states that the Canadian and Aussie L2s had the top cover mounted leaf sight however some were produced with the regular sight and were mostly exported to Singapore.

Yes and by the end of their time in service here tangent sighted body covers were no longer available so if damaged they would get a standard l1A1 body cover and rear sight.
