DR-200 3D Printed Fixed Stock

I'm at the point of ordering more Buttplates and wanted to get your feed back. CAV Mfg A1 or standard A2.

1. Is the Calvary Mfg acceptable?
2. Should I stick with the more expensive (+$10) A2?
3. Would an option without the buttplate be interesting?

The only problem with the existing ones is the latch, which fails to keep the little hatch fully closed.

If the USGI one doesn't solve that, I doubt it's worth the extra ten bucks.

Just received the package today and I love it!

One thing that concerns me is how tightly the screws should be tightened when assembling it + a little mismatch on the top side, but not a big deal for me.

tight fit, overall no major issue. planning to go to Range this weekend, any particular area you need comment, let me know.

also, I believe mines CAV version. it hesitates me use often due to durability.

smooth finish and not too aggressive, I like CAV version.

I really like the shape of the CAV Mfg A1 over the A2, but you have to push up on the tab until it clicks. Once latched, it seems to hold; haven't had it open up on me? However, the A2 is much sturdier, latching as you "wack" it closed. I'm out of A1's and only 4 A2's remaining, just enough to finish the (4) stocks I have in process.

Working on the next batch of (4) all will be A2. These are vapor smoothed and sanded.

Wanted to share the fit of each as I test fit each stock to my receiver. It's becoming clear there is slight variation in the Daewoo receivers based on comments by members, especially the top right corner of the receiver (chamfer).

Also, this batch incorporates the Pronged T-Nut. I finally got a pocket right, allowing the T-nut to drop in during the paus in printing, even with all the variation of the stamped prongs. I'm now confident there is no chance of the nut coming loose and believe removable Loctite can be used if desired.

Just for perspective, I have been using a stock I printed over a year ago, prior to my new 300x300x350 printer, which was printed in 3 pieces and epoxied together. I've had this stock on and off dozens of times, including the buttplate, without either nut coming loose. In addition, I haven't had any issue of the stock coming loose at the range, with the receiver nut being hand tight and no Loctite.

Working on a slight variation of the fixed stock, while the Left Side Folder is in limbo. Let me know what you think.

1. Eliminate storage compartment
2. Eliminate A2 Buttplate, maintain profile.
3. Eliminate sling swivel.
4. Add hard rubber buttplate, printed from TPU (Shore A 90-95)
5. Shorten stock by 20mm (.78 in)

This should better resemble the original profile and length of pull. Shown below with (2) wood screws to secure the buttplate, however, I'm considering epoxy?

You might want to go with a softer shore TPU, although the softer you go the more difficult it is to print even with a modified print head. You can also go with non-solid fill areas to make it slightly more flexible with the stiffer material.



Use a denser mesh around the fastener holes for strength...

I've never printed with TPU, it's going to be a learning experience. Also concerned with supports, apparently using TPU to support itself is a no-go. My printer is IDEX however I've never printed with two different materials. Alot to figure out including which filament to use.

Curious, what is that part you show?

It's a Galil cheek rest. I made several versions of these over the years but the latest was in TPU.

Now that is cool. I love my Galil, iron sights only.

I have some Inland TPU coming in from Micro Center. Been watching a bunch of videos on printing with TPU. Should be interesting.

Had another guy suggest printing a mold (ABS or PLA) and pour the buttplate out of some rubber like resin. A field I know nothing about.

I was looking at that route for the cheek rest because I wanted to make the rests out of a dense urethane foam similar to the originals. Kind of like a firm Nerf football. The problem is that the resin for the foam is pretty pricey and not available locally. The nice thing about the 3D printing is you can adjust the fill to make certain areas more dense and others less so to make it more flexible. The TPU is pretty durable, too.

I made some buttstock extensions for the AK74 metal folding stock out of TPU and it works very well. There is a print mode where you can give it a texture, too, which I though might be more grippy.

I really like this one better! I bought the first version and like it but I really like the slimmer profile and shape of this one is close to the OG.
