Did you miss the HK part of HK61? 
You'll end up building it on the same PTR receiver everyone else uses for all the other G3 pattern rifles.
I'm not even slightly interested in one. Cant imagine anyone being willing to shell out that kind of money for one of those kits.

These were used extensively in Africa fighting Portugals Colonian wars about 60 years ago.
Somebody at APEX is smoking something. A $1600 CETME kit with no barrel, but hey, at least it comes with that rare stamped hand guard.
And yeah, as someone said above, build it on the same incorrect G3 receiver everything else it built on. No freakin' thanks, APEX.

The price they want is insane, but............the handguard and bipod alone (at least in nice shape) has brought in the past beaucoup bucks when shucked out on forums and/or gunjoker.
I'll have to snag some pictures off there for reference. This was THE HK G3 I most wanted to have built many years ago, but it had too many parts that were impossible to find, such as the rear sight base for the early flip-up rear sight. The early flash hider looks awesome as well, though I do wonder how much louder it might have been than the slotted one that came after.
I am shocked honestly that these rifles ever made it over in kit form. I would have thought they'd have been destroyed long ago overseas.
For those who have the crazy cash to spill on one of these kits (along with the necessary replacement parts you're gonna need), I'll bet Jeff Walters at Parabellum Combat Systems could build one of these into a kick-ass retro rifle.

A bit of lineage off the top of my head.
These kits are German HK made G3’s.
M61 is the model the Portuguese designated as they were adopted in 1961. Portugal did not start manufacturing their own G3 rifles under HK contract until ~1963.

These are not CETME rifles although there are characteristics of the CETME on the early G3’s.
The triangular rear sight base is similar in appearance to the CETME but not the same, nor is the flip sight …or the front sight, cocking tube, lower etc.
While most might choose to build it on an HK style receiver/flat with the full re-enforcing rib on the mag well or smooth sided CETME flat, both are incorrect for this year rifle.
These rifles had a single rib on the mag well. A slab/smooth sided CETME flat would be the best option if one chose to stamp the single rib. More on that later.
The kits, which I agree, are very pricey, have some very hard to find components. When I found out these were possibly coming in I was pretty excited. Not for the fact of purchasing one, more so because I didn’t think any of these survived in any quantity or still held in inventory. Further more, someone had the chance to buy them and get them to the US.
Still to rich for me but glad they’re available. I know there are limited quantities on the more expensive kits that have all the correct parts, last I checked a couple weeks ago there were about 55 available.

I went the route of sourcing parts for a ‘59 G3 clone build. It wasn’t easy, and still had to make my rear sight base. I ended up with the correct front sight and flash hider by a stroke of luck. It came in box of barrel cut offs that were all listed as CETME B parts. To my surprise and already into the G3 build, there it was, the front sight and flash hider on a cut G3 bbl.
I used a CETME flat and stamped the single rib and also the triangular areas by the mag release.
Top to bottom:
-The M61 Portuguese rifles before they were cut.
-My ‘59 build from a few years ago.
-…yes, Ghilli did put together one of those M61 kits. I think it only took him a few days from the time he got the kit to test fire.

I think I remember seeing a picture somewhere of a huge pile of Argentine FALs on the hangar deck of a Brit aircraft carrier after the Falkland thing about to be committed to the deep South Atlantic

Regarding the early G3 flip up rear sight, how do you zero them? Do you have to adjust the front sight post with a tool the way that you do for a CETME C, or is it done some other way?
Also, these pictures of the uncut rifles are pretty interesting I think. The one rifle in the first picture looks like it has had a green G3 plastic buttpad fitted to the original wooden stock, which looks pretty weird. I don't think I've seen pictures before of G3s with mismatched/miscolored stocks and handguards like this, but I suppose it makes sense from an Armorer's standpoint (whatever keeps the guns running, who cares if the stock colors match or if it looks pretty lol).
I called the guys at PCS….what I was told was these were brought in years ago with a lot of other HK stuff….no one really knew what they were…they were rediscovered recently and that’s when they realized what they had…that’s what I was told….there aren’t that many of them…most were G3s…

Yes, the front post is offset same as the CETME.
